The Milk Fed Baby lamb is born and raised on a single farm and feeds exclusively on its mother's milk by suckling at the udder and receives no other food. Any preventive or curative sanitary treatment is prohibited.
The production of the Pyrenean Milk Lamb is based on three local breeds:
-Manech black head
-Manech red head
-Basco-Béarnaise
The age at slaughter does not exceed 45 days and the maximum weight is 11 kilos carcass.
The Pyrenean Milk Fed Baby Lamb is a seasonal product available from October 15th to June 15th. Because of its exclusively milky diet and its very young age at slaughter, the meat of the Pyrenean Milk Lamb has a very melting texture and a not very strong taste.
The Pyrenean suckling lamb is naturally part of a process of guarantee of its origin by formalizing a Label Rouge / IGP approach, based on a specific quality linked to the know-how of the sheep breeders of the Pyrenean area.
